Reading Logs can be a bit boring so this will definitely expand the interest of your students and maybe just let them find a new genre of choice! Here is a challenge for your students.....should you choose to accept it on their behalf. This product is a simple reading log which will challenge your students to read "outside of their comfort zones". This can be used both individually by students and as a classroom effort as well. Students keep track throughout the school year of the types of books they read and fill in the reading log beside the descriptors on the rally log. Of course, various genres are included such as: fiction/nonfiction, realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, poetry, short stories, fantasy, biography, autobiography, and more. Also included are some fun descriptors such as: book written by a kid, book from which a movie was made, out of print, one word title, and many more as well. There are 26 descriptors included and students will be challenged to read books that would typically not be chosen by themselves.
For a whole group log, consider enlarging the chart to poster size and displaying in the classroom. Individual logs might be run back to back on tag board and stored in student work folders for the school year.
