The story map walks students through several key literary elements and therefore helps increase their comprehension. The front page helps them identify characters, setting, conflict, resolution, and theme. The second page (back side) defines several basic literary elements such as plot, character, rising and falling action and climax. It also has a reading log and walks students through determining how many pages to read each day to complete a book by a certain date. This has proven to be a very effective tool for elementary and middle school students alike.
