This is a log for students to keep a record of their independent reading for both home and school. I print the log two-sided. One the back of the log, student select a sticky note from ehich is used to track thinking during reading. The student then writes long, expanding on the thought they recorded on the post it. In my classroom, students hand in and receive a new log each Friday. I require 30 minutes of home reading 6 days a week, but left the log general so that you can make it work for you and your class. This is a great way to monitor independent reading during Reader's Workshop, while including open-ended responses to help students to prepare for standardized testing situations.
