Students work on their reading response journals at school, then you can copy them onto the back of the Nightly Reading Log homework for extra practice!
This is a bundle of my 2 best selling products.
Nightly Reading Log Homework and Reading Response Journals.
These 2 products complement each other nicely.
The Nightly Reading Log Homework includes:
Now with editable Reading Logs and more response choices!
Nightly Reading Homework is an important part of our Reading regime in Second Grade. This homework would probably be best suited to second or third grade. The reading log is a place for the students to write down what and how they are reading nightly. It also has "Read like the animals" accuracy strategies at the bottom as a reminder for figuring out unknown words.
We send home a new reading log each Monday with some sort of Reading Activity to go along with it on the back. It is due back to school the following Monday. This gives children the opportunity to practice the reading skills and strategies that they are learning at school
In this set, I have included different Reading Responses that could be copied onto the back of the Reading Log. Usually, the responses are ones that the children are familiar with because we have done them together at school. Some of the responses go along well with the key comprehension strategies that all good readers need:
Others are just a way to get kiddos thinking about their reading.
The Reading Response journals product is 116 pages of Reading Goodness!
These responses are made to be copied, and made into a booklets. In this updated version most responses come in 1/2 page vertical, 1/2 page horizontal, and full page horizontal. You could copy the same response for each day of the week, or different response for each day. They could be used for all the same book or different books. This expanded version comes with in class reading logs for Read to Self and Read to Someone. It has 24 different types of responses including responses for nonfiction! It also has pages for students to record their reading goals when they work with the teacher and recording mini-lessons. It has been updated to include a rubric for taking a grade. These are a quick way for children to respond to the books that they are reading during Daily 5 or reading workshop. I use these for a weekly grade for my reading workshop (Daily 5).
