Kids can now record their at-home reading (with or without minutes) Reading Logs without parent signatures and become more fluent readers.
This Read to Succeed Reading Logs is a program I’ve designed to be VOLUNTARY. However, it can be used as your homework with no problem. Once I share my comparison “Raise a Reader” handout (included) with my parents, almost everyone jumps on board. However, because it’s “voluntary," I don’t feel that anyone gets stressed out about “homework.” The reading logs are designed to be simple: no parent signature required! Kids have the option of handing in log at end of the month or keeping them. If they hand them in, I always comment on some of the books chosen and often discover a few new books to add to my list!
During BTSN, I give a GENERAL overview of the program and pass out the “Raise a Reader” form as well as explain “Goldilocks” and the “Five Finger Rule” to parents. (All included) I personally don’t start logs until November but they can, of course, be started right away.
*Editable letters for Intro Letter, Goldilocks Strategy to Finding Just-Right Books, and Five Finger Rules. (They are located in separate folder BUT also included in main pack if you want to use as is.)
Reading Stratedy Bookmark (just fold and glue) for home that will reinforce the Beanie Baby Reading Strategies you use in classroom.
(NOTE: I always use these terms with kids and they love them. I sell the posters in my store but don’t have a Beanie Baby animal in my class anywhere! You don’t need the stuffed animals to use them.)
* Reading logs for every month of the year. Run them two-sided. I’ve included lovely reading/book quotes on each page so the front and back of a monthly log will have different quotes. (Quotes are aimed at parents!)
* Reading Response Sheets that can also be used for your listening centers. NOTE: These are same sheets I sell in my store but with apple theme. I wouldn’t want you to buy them twice unless you wanted different theme.) There are TWENTY different sheets in both primary and seconday handwriting lines. (So 40 combined.)
*Powerful “Raise a Reader” handout. I am sure you will find this handout format very convincing! I do sell a PowerPoint version of this that I play on a loop during conferences.
