This is an easy activity to explain, so it would also work for substitute teachers or for literacy centers. Great for library or classroom displays!
Who it's for: elementary, middle school
Class: library, writing, reading
Lesson duration: 60-90 minutes; could easily be broken up over two days
Objective: Students will recommend a favorite book to other students on a holiday-themed light bulb.
Prep: Print one light bulb for each student (to save paper, there are 3 light bulbs per page). There are 8 different-colored light bulbs, or you can use the white bulb and have students color or decorate them. They could also be pasted to construction paper.
For students: Pick a book you really love and would recommend to other students for holiday reading. Write the title on the bulb stem, then write a short description of the book and/or why you would recommend it.
Display: Use black yarn to connect the string of lights. Display on wall, door, or bulletin board with the phrase “Reading Makes You Bright!” For extra fun, add some real colored lights around the display.
