This reading passages bundle is ideal for test prep! It contains 60 reading comprehension passages (32 nonfiction passages, 17 fiction passages, 8 poems, and 3 dramas). Beneath each passage, there are usually six multiple choice comprehension questions. (However, two of the poems contain 9 questions.) These reading passages can be used in so many ways! Some options include using them as a test prep activity, as morning work or homework, as part of a small group lesson, or as part of a distance learning activity.
The comprehension questions vary with each passage, which allows your students the opportunity to review several reading skills at once.
The skills targeted in these passages include:
- Citing Text Evidence
- Context Clues
- Cause and Effect
- Figurative Language
- Character Traits
- Main Idea
- Theme/Central Message
- Text Structure
- Author's Purpose
- Drawing Conclusions
- Supporting Details
- Text Features
- Word Choice
- Point of View
- Author's Tone
- Elements of Dramas
- Elements of Poetry
Twenty-nine passages fall into the 810-1000 lexile range.
Twenty-one passages fall into the 610-800 lexile range.
The three dramas are slightly easier (410-600 lexile range).
Most of the poems fall into a lexile range that exceeds 1000 because of the complex sentence structure they exhibit.
UPDATE! All three sets now includes a digital option, too, making it ideal for distance learning situations! I made two digital versions of each reading passage- one uses Google Slides and the other uses Google Forms. You can send the Google Form or Google Slides link to your students or you can share a link in Google Classroom.
