These Reading project-based activities are a way to enrich your high-achieving students through independent work study, while you are able to focus on providing instruction and support to your on level and approaching level students.
These 78 activities were created based on the first grade Common Core State Standards and follow the order that the Reading Wonders program is taught. There are 14 activities for each of the five instructional weeks and 8 activities for the review week. They come in both color and black and white copies, so you can chose which you’d like to use. Although they follow the sequence of Reading Wonders, they are not limited to just the Wonders program. Only a few of the activities each week are specific to Wonders. The rest are open ended and broad, for any student needing reading enrichment. They can be used by any students or teachers who teach skills related to the CCSS in Reading.
These activities are written using Bloom’s Taxonomy vocabulary (bold words on each activity sheet) and left with very little to no specific directions on HOW to complete the activity (on purpose), to meet those higher-level, critical thinking skills. These activities may be completed in one academic period (by your quick thinking, fast working students), but were written with the goal of truly being a project-based learning experience, that may take several days to complete.
Also included is a guide on how to successfully incorporate these enrichment activities into your daily schedule. It includes:
*How to assess who is ready for enrichment
*How to get started
*Encouraging enrichment for all students
These activities can also be used by your students during a reading center or by your non-enrichment students when the unit is over.
