The 20 cards included here can be organized based on color:
Red cards ask questions regarding the student’s personal opinions and thoughts
Yellow cards ask questions regarding summarizing
Blue cards ask about the story’s structure
Gray cards ask about the structure of the plot
Orange cards ask the student to infer
I typically use these cards in two ways. First, I have a jar where I have them contained, scrambled up. As I read with my small group, I’ll pull cards out. After we are done reading, I’ll pull a few more cards. Another way I use these cards is to have them in my reading center. Students will ask each other questions as they partner read. They record the questions they drew from the pile and their answer on the Guided Reading Question Inventory worksheet (included in this PDF).
