Reading Report can be used during Reader's Workshop: Replace the expensive and hard to track “Sticky Notes!” When students are reading different books during Reader’s Workshop, it can be difficult for teachers to stay informed about what each student is reading.
Reading Report is also an excellent alternative for Reading Logs. This is a fun way to hold students accountable for their reading time and foster a love of books, you can set up reading goals and review their Reading Report accordingly.
Students can easily record their responses; they can use complete sentences, one word, or even a picture! To record the genre and author’s purpose they just have to circle their choice!
Reading Report also prompts students to utilize reading strategies such as finding characters, setting, problem and solution for Fiction Books, and locating facts for Non-Fiction books. It is a great review and practice tool for the student to distinguish Fiction and Non-Fiction books and their features and also to identify author’s purpose.
You can even make a booklet for the entire year, if you copy the pages double sided and staple the pages with the cover, or you can make several booklets for the school year.
Number of double sided pages recommended for the school year: 25 pages
A booklet with 10 double sided pages will last approximately 3-4 months.
