What if you had a resource that your gifted and advanced learners thought was super cool and interesting? What if your kids who were always finished with their work early had something to do that they wanted to work on?
This product gives students the opportunity for just that! Using the book or website by Randall Munroe, "What If? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions", your students can complete 8 different reading response activities to explore these out-of-the-box responses to humorously ridiculous questions.
Included are the eight activities, answer sheet, suggestions for using them with your students, and the website address so that you can your students can access the "What if?" questions and answers. These activities can be done independently as an anchor activity or enrichment:
Pros and Cons--identifying positive and negative effects
Answer First--using inferences to answer the question before reading
A Good Idea?--analyzing whether the event in question should happen in real life
Cartoons--examining cartoons in the articles and creating them for new ideas
Re-Organize It--using graphic organizers and summarizing
Found Poetry--using words, phrases, and sentences in the articles to create a poem
Twitter Conversation--using Twitter format to write a conversation with the author
Quotability--locating quotes in the articles and explaining their significance
Each activity is set up with a Before/During/After Reading format and can be used with any article from Munroe's book or website.
