Teach kids active reading skills (ask questions, predict, summarize, clarify, synthesize) using these bookmarks. These bookmarks come ready to print double sided and should be cut out individually. During guided reading or when using a read aloud book, introduce the organizers so that students have an opportunity to practice the skill. They use one side (descriptive) to jot down their responses and share. On a different day, they use the flip side to respond to what they have read independently during silent reading, literature circles, or book clubs. I focus on one skill all week and have a basket handy with the "bookmark of the week." When due students can staple and turn them in all together.
