Reading Response Quick Checks
I created these Reading Response Quick Check forms after needing a way to keep students accountable while reading independently. My school used the AR program, but I wanted a way to encourage students to read all books – not just those in a leveled library. These sheets are a “quick check” to see if students understand what they read and take the place of computerized tests. Forms for nonfiction and fiction books are packaged together.
Reading Response Task Cards
After reading during center, partner, or independent work, students choose Reading Response Task Cards that are appropriate for their books and complete responses to show what they know. The cards cover both fiction and non-fiction topics, are differentiated for ability or age, and can be used with any text! Place the task cards in a center and you'll have a resource students can reuse all year long.
I have included four sets of task cards: a fiction and nonfiction set for younger/lower level readers and a fiction and non-fiction set for older/higher level readers.
Homework Reading Log
This Homework Reading Log product contains two main parts: the reading log and a question choice sheet. On the reading log, students list the book they read each night (Monday - Thursday) and then choose a response question to show what they've learned from their reading. There are ten questions for both nonfiction and fiction texts. Students are to challenge themselves to choose a different question each night and answer in complete sentences.
I have included two versions. One has smaller print, is two pages long, and can be copied front to back. The second has larger print, is four pages long, and would be two pages copied front to back. There are several sets of each version - one with a graphic and one without, ones with specific days of the week (Monday – Friday), and ones with generic labels (Day 1 – Day 5).
