This Reading Response Journal can be used with fiction and non-fiction books. It is purposefully simple and fairly brief, so that it is not perceived as another torturous writing assignment for elementary children. The children are asked to describe the setting, the characters, provide 2 facts from the book, and to describe the problem in the book. They are also required to ask two questions about the book, which may be the hardest task. The final part where children are asked to illustrate a scene from the book is a fun and creative ending to this book reflection.
