One of the most frustrating parts of standard reading responses is that it takes away from valuable time the students could be reading. It often does not bring about quality responses, and turns the student’s engagement with the text into a robotic response of what I read. With this product you will engage your student into a deeper level of reading, while always ensuring that they look at their text from a different vantage each day.
Students will respond each day using the “Thinkmarks” bookmark. These bookmarks are specifically designed around the state standards, and give your students active engagement each day with them. Students will pick a different skill each day to make a quick stop and jot (1 sentence) about on a sticky note. When they add their stop and jot to their notebook, they will add a longer response (1-3 sentences) off of their short stop and jot. They will do this Monday-Thursday. This process takes readers no longer than 5 minutes total each day, allowing them to spend the large amount of their time reading! This is what we truly want! On Friday, students will write a reading response letter. This uses what they have been reading all week as well as their stop and jots!
