Are you looking for ways to implement, teach and then have your children review skills in LITERARY text completely aligned to the Common Core? Or perhaps you are looking for ways to assess their knowledge? Or a way to differentiate without going bonkers? If so, this reading response set, dubbed BINGO reading, is the set for you! These activities are MORE than just somewhat, kind of or vaguely aligned to the common core--they are PERFECTLY aligned to all of the 10 literary text standards! This resource includes one BINGO choice board and 9 different common core aligned activities with coordinating worksheets. These materials can be used in multiple ways.
The activities on the BINGO card are in the exact order as indicated on the Common Core Standards document. Each standard is clearly identified on each activity. You can use the activities for whole group lessons, guided reading lessons, independent practice or even for assessment of the standards.

I have 3 main ways that I put the activities to use in my classroom. Each week I choose one of the standards from the Common Core on which to focus. Then I find the coordinating activity from the BINGO board. This will serve as a supplemental activity used to support my teaching of the desired concept.
I choose a standard and an activity to focus on each week. Then I use the materials in this packet for whole group lessons. I model each step required to understand the concept fully. I repeat this activity with the same skill throughout the week.
Then during guided reading groups, we review the same concept that I have just taught in my whole group lesson. But this time each group will apply the highlighted concept to the book that we are reading in group, which is at their level of understanding.
After I have taught all 9 of the skills, the children can then do BINGO reading on their own. I have the students chose a book in the genre that we are studying (fiction or informational). They get to chose their own book and one of the activities from their BINGO card. So they read their chosen book and complete one of the activities independently during quiet reading time.
After they complete the chosen activity from the BINGO card, they get to stamp it with a BINGO marker. The kids love doing this! They repeat these steps until they have stamped each one of the activities on their card and have completed all of the work.
This system has worked wonderfully for my classroom. The children with above average abilities choose books at a higher level and then complete activities at a higher level. Likewise, students who grapple with concepts can choose books at their level and still understand the common core standard at their reading level. In this manner, each activity is differentiated.
