Teach character analysis, empathy, and writing while giving your students a fun way to promote their books to their classmates with this activity pack. Common Core in the Middle recognizes that one size does NOT fit all, so this activity pack includes four different options for how to use it. Pick one or use them all over the course of the year. Students will be asked to step into their character's shoes and write postcards from him or her to themselves (text-to-self connection), to a character in another book they or a peer read (text-to-text connection), or to a real world celebrity (text-to-world connection). Example worksheets are given for each option as well as teacher notes. This pack also includes a bonus summer reading postcard activity that will give you a quick and easy way to assess your students' summer reading progress. The postcards students create will also make a terrific bulletin board display that will also give students ideas for what to read next.
