Reading response prompts, book logs, reflection, checklists
This product is intended for kids in grades 3-6. This kit contains everything you need for a successful independent reading block. We need to provide kids time to read and read a lot between home and school as well as hold them accountable!
There are two independent book logs that can capture different data over time; genre, level, time it took to complete a book or a page per minute rate. It also allows kids to set goals for their reading.
Also included is a reading response checklist that allows your kids to self-evaluate while given criteria for success, such as checking to see if their response makes sense, has the correct punctuation, as well as a few other things. This also allows the kids to reflect and evaluate.
Another piece included is a reflection on their reading log. After a determined period, like nine weeks, it is good to have kids look at their logs and reflect on patterns or trends they notice. This, then allows them to set new goals for their reading.
The possible responses are for both information and literature. There are three sets of possible prompts. The first set includes a box that the kids can use for tally marks for each time they have used a certain response. The second set has the same prompts but the boxes for tallying are not there. The third set is only for literature but provides scaffolds within the prompt and helps the readers by providing a sentence starter, which is in red. All the responses will fit into a composition notebook, as well as the checklist. There are two to an 11 x 8.5-inch landscape page.
