This graphic organizer is a great tool for students to use while reading non-fiction. This response sheet can be used again and again whenever students are asked to complete some non-fiction reading. It asks students to use a variety of sentence starters to share their understanding of the text. This graphic organizer can be used as a scaffold for all readers and is a good tool for ELL students as well.
Simply print this worksheet out and pass out to students before they start reading a selection. There is choice built into this GO. Teachers can assign a different number of starters based on reading level or purpose, or students can be asked to self select how many starters they will use while reading a selection.
Teachers can then collect the student work and use it to gather evidence for small group instruction, check for understanding, or other purposes.
