Check for comprehension by using these reading response sheets. Responding to literature doesn't just have to be with a letter. You can check to see how well a child understands what they read by focusing on different aspects of the piece of literature, whether it be character evaluation, problems in the story, or more.

Your students are sure to gain meaning from what they read when they use one of these sheets to go along with the text. Students can even complete one of these in a literacy center if you didn't want to do it whole class. I actually use these types of 'response projects' as one of my reading centers. They complete it on the book they are reading independently.
