This handout is a checklist students can use as they are writing their own reading responses. It can be used for independent writing, or shared writing responses. This checklist would typically be used after students co-create a list of features that a reading response needs (you can also find this in my freebie). The checklist is very useful during reading/writing conferences. Teacher and student can discuss the areas the student did well on and what areas need to be improved in their response. The checklist uses the B.O.Y three part response method (Blue- students use words from the question in their answer, Orange - students include evidence from the text, and Yellow - students add their own ideas that relate to the text. There are two checklists per page, for easy printing.
