Build accountability in your literacy program by assigning reading responses to your students that are rich and meaningful and that match your focus in your reading program.
1. Analyze Texts --> inspire your students to think critically about the elements of a narrative by focuses on characters, settings, themes, conflicts/solutions...
2. Respond/Evaluate --> teach your students that it's important to justify their thinking/opinion
Reading Responses are part of most well balanced literacy programs. This is a great resource to incorporate in your independent or shared writing opportunities you give to your students.
For beginning of the year, you could use one of these to model to your students how you want a reading response to look like...etc.
