The purpose of this activity is to get students thinking about what they are reading for independent reading (silent reading, DEAR, SSR). Common Core standards required 50% Fiction and 50% Nonfiction by upper elementary. Because of this, there are equal high-level, thinking questions, for fiction and nonfiction.
To use: Students will need nine-sided dice. I use one for each group or table. The students can role daily or as often as you wish them to! or, digital dice can be found online. We have our Reading Response pages on card stock in plastic sheet protectors for our Reader’s Notebook. But, they could just as easily be glued into the front and back of a spiral notebook. We then read our responses to a shoulder or face partner.
I teach 4th grade and I created this product for our classroom. In our classroom we have students who read from 2nd grade all the way up to 7th grade (with lots in between!). I needed something to get the students thinking when they were not a part of a Guided Reading group.
This product includes:
* 9 High level fiction response questions
* 9 High level nonfiction response questions
* Directions on how to use the response questions
* 2 different types of daily reading response logs
One is 2 responses her sheet, the other just one.
