Reading response letters are a fabulous way for students to:
-Remain accountable for independent reading
-Apply common core reading, language, and writing instruction
-Practice letter-writing skills
With this purchase you are given 33 reading response questions/prompts. On a weekly basis (or biweekly - whatever works for you), students answer one question in the form of a letter to you. You may assign the specific prompt so all students are writing about the same thing. Or, you may allow for more independence by giving students all of the prompts and allowing them to choose a suitable one each week.
Some years I have had students keep all writing in a journal (spiral or composition book), and other years I have had them turn in the reading responses individually on notebook paper. This is a matter of personal preference for you, the teacher.
In my class, each reading response letter follows a structured format:
*Paragraph One – Introduce the book they are reading, the author, when they began reading it, and the page they are currently on.
*Paragraph Two – Answer the assigned question/prompt for the week.
*Paragraph Three – Give thoughts and predictions about the book they are reading.
With this purchase you will receive:
-33 common core aligned reading response questions/prompts
-A sample reading response letter to use when instructing students
-A scaffolded reading response for ELA or Sped students
