NEW!! All teachers know the frustration that comes when students can’t seem to retain, let alone apply, lessons from day to day! Reviewing reading skills is key to helping students retain and maintain mastery, while applying these skills to new stories. You don’t need prepackaged reviews in order to continually remind and practice already-taught reading skills. Use the texts you use on a daily basis to help students apply all prior lessons.
Review to your heart’s content, because the skill and a simple visual are right in front of your students in your classroom! The Reading Review Road is flexible; each time you teach a new reading skill, you can put the corresponding stepping stone on your wall, gradually building your Review Road all the way to the castle! Review them with every story you read; students can refer to the stones during whole, small, and independent work.
Choose from colored, black and white, or fill-in-the-blanks sets; any of these can also be printed in smaller formats and given to students for individual use.
There are also “street signs” that represent thinking and metacognition strategies that you can add along your Review Road!
The Reading Review Road was created by focusing on the 3rd grade literature standards, but easily can be used to review in all stories in grades 2 and 4 also.
•: Ten “stepping stones” in color, showing visual reminders for all 3rd
grade Common Core Literature standards. (Colored set includes metacognition/
thinking strategies road signs.)
•: Complete black and white set of the same stepping stones. Can be printed out in any size for any purpose (rings, reader’s notebook, reading station resource…)
•: A “fill-in-the-blanks" set of the same for students to complete for reader’s notebook or other individual resources.
•Also: A “fictional” castle picture to post at the end of the Reading Review Road.
