These are reading roadmaps for the book A Dog's Life, by Ann M. Martin. The story is an autobiographical account of a stray dog named Squirrel and her experiences with and without a family.
Roadmaps are a more student-centered way to facilitate reading with accountable talk. The roadmaps are extremely student-friendly and guide students through reading each chapter of the book. The roadmaps tell the students which words to preview before reading each chapter, when to stop & jot, turn and talk to a partner, answer a written response question, sketch a scene (to help with visualization), etc. Most of the questions are Florida (LAFS) standards-based for 4th grade but you could easily adapt this resource for 3rd or 5th grade, as the standards are not labeled and this is an editable file.
The roadmaps tell the student which pages to read and which pages to stop on to complete the activity. This helps build autonomy within the literacy block. This bundle includes a roadmap for each chapter of the book (23 chapters), and a book review guide for the end of the book.
