Making Predictions is such a fun concept to introduce comprehension strategies with.
This updated pack is all about getting students to practice making predictions using before, during and after reading strategies such as looking at the title and illustrations or confirming or revising their initial prediction.
My favorite update is to the passage page itself. Originally, the students read the passage until the end and responded in writing about what might happen next. I updated it to include space for writing a before, during and after thinking spaces. I see great progress and growth with most of my students when they are actively engaged with the text by writing as they read. The page can be used as you see fit or the student is comfortable with though.
Included are a few graphic organizers such as a T-Chart to discuss examples and non-examples of making an actual prediction versus an inference or if they have steered off into main idea, sequence. There is a circle map to brainstorm how predicting is helpful to any reader.
The 10 short and engaging passages will keep your students attention but allow them to practice the skill at a comfortable level. I wrote each passage in mind so that they have to make predictions but it's not too difficult to comprehend. I purposely put in specific vocabulary to hopefully expand our students vocabularies with words that have simple context clues (a mini lesson in itself).
I hope you find what you need! Take a look at the PREVIEW and if you still have any questions please ask!
