Do you struggle with taking conferring notes or how to use data to group your readers? Make your note-taking life as a teacher 10 times easier! I have created three tools for teachers to use when observing, tracking and planning instruction for student reading stamina.
These tools have helped me highlight student strengths, group areas of need and track my modifications so that all of my students develop their independent reading stamina over the course of the year.
Tool #1 is a checklist with positive traits of reading stamina. As you observe students during reading workshop or independent reading blocks, simply check off the things they do well and note any key information. This tool is great for providing feedback to parents, administrators, writing report cards and planning next steps.
Tool # 2 is a grid for grouping students based off of the needs you have observed. Simply list student names in the box or boxes that they need work on. Voila! There are your small groups with teaching area ready to go. I have saved hours of note-taking since I started using tools like this in all areas of reading and writing.
Tool # 3 is a table for tracking students that need modifications. The modifications might be with routines, time, partnerships, seating, or tools. I have also included a sample of how I've used this form so that it is easy for a new user to understand (see preview). This is great for RTI work or supporting strugglers in general.
I am in the process of making similar "teacher helpers" for other components of reading. If you like this product, please consider following my page so that you can easily find my new products.
