Each map includes- 6th grade objective, Learning Target, Success Criteria, and guided questions to promote discourse.
Choose one short story, below grade level (eases into the success of the maps), to model each map. Model one map a day. 1st map is actually a 2 in 1 with 2 standards. If time is allotted, cover both standards, however typically after text is read using Close Reading Codes, only time left in the Language Arts time frame is to provide supporting details. The following day, revisit same story, Close Reading Codes, details written in circle map, then develop a main idea... or 2. Use the story and maps you completed as success criteria so that students can refer back to your maps. Depending on the level you teach, students may need several examples with one story for each set of maps (pages. 1-6 is a set). Use the speech bubbles as a way to help guide discourse among student to student and teacher.
