-Reading Strategies and Thinking Stems Bookmark (2 bookmarks per page)
Great activity for use with any assigned reading! Introduce effective research-based reading strategies to build comprehension of any text. I use the bookmarks to help students identify what to annotate. Students use the Talking to the Text log (also included) as a scaffolding tool to track their use of these strategies. Eventually, we move away from using the log and doing using the sentence starters to write annotations directly on the text.
-Reading Strategies Log: Word and PDF version (2 pages each)
Easy-to-use handout where students can log the application of their reading strategies. Good to use at the beginning of the year or anytime you are scaffolding to having students do annotations. Also great if students cannot write in their books or on the text, so they can log their annotations here. If collected, these can be used to easily gauge a student's engagement and comprehension of any text, fiction or non-fiction.
Word doc version is easily editable!
