Directions: Read your book. As you read, ask “Why?”. Write down your “why?” questions and possible answers on this sheet. If you have trouble coming up with a “why?” question, remember to re-read and think about anything you find puzzling.
I used this with my 4th grade special ed students. I found that the majority of them had difficulty formulating "why?" questions and answering them. I used this during our mysteries reading unit for independent and group reading as well as reading homework.
Encourage students to share, answer each others questions and comment on possible answers.
Prompt students to question character actions, decisions and relationships.
