Author’s Purpose Guide - This worksheet, which fits three on a page, is designed to help students practice identifying author’s purpose. It is generic so it can be used with any text and is useful throughout the year. They can use it to determine if an author wrote a text to persuade, inform, or entertain (PIE) the audience. Students must also provide evidence by answering the question, “How do you know?” It is quick and easy to assess student understanding and can be graded and sent home to keep parents aware of the reading strategies you are teaching and practicing in class.
