These handy bookmarks are a great way to encourage your students to use reading strategies while they read independently. Each bookmark lists a skill (see below), then explains the associated strategy ("what readers do"), as well as a list of "how to" steps. These bookmarks can be given to students for short periods of time, based on their individual reading needs.
Each skill above is broken into 3 differentiated bookmarks: one for students beginning to acquire the skill, one for grade-level readers, and one for more advanced readers. Additionally, each bookmark has a "tally box" where readers can keep track of each time they used the strategy while reading.
Also included is a bookmark that can be used more generally. It is a list of ideas for annotating/creating post-its during independent reading.
I hope you find these to be a helpful tool as you work with your reading students!
