Main Idea Mastery is an excellent activity to help students actively read text books, articles, and other nonfiction texts. While working on the activity, students stay actively engaged as they look closely at the information and cite evidence as they go.
This activity is a very simple one to teach, but has several benefits. Once it is taught, it can be used repeatedly to engage with texts across subject areas. Upon completion, Main Idea Mastery is also a great study guide. In addition to the graphic organizer for active reading, this activity also includes questioning, summarizing, and synthesizing activities. The four different pages in this set can be copied and configured in any order to fit specific needs.
