More about the strategy:
Previewing and Predicting is a literacy strategy that helps students engage with texts, connect texts to their prior knowledge, enhance their reading comprehension and develop critical thinking skills. The process requires students to skim titles, subtitles, visuals, etc. They then record what they believe these components might reveal about the content of the text. Predicting requires students to call on prior knowledge to make inferences then confirm or revise them. (Differentiation Note: Fictional texts can be easier for students to use when making predictions. We have included a worksheet for students who may need to begin with fiction before moving to the nonfiction worksheet.)
