These reading strategy sentence strips will reinforce 4 - 5 reading strategies that young students use. I have not included the harder ones (skip and flip the vowel as these are intended for younger readers)
There are over 100 strategy strips included! (111 sentences)
Some of the cards will require the student to circle the matching picture.
Students will also circle the strategy that helped them. Students then vocalize why they chose that particular strategy.
Sentences are easier sentences. They are meant for new readers or readers that lack confidence or that do not apply strategies during lessons. The sentences are short, perfect for young readers.
I have also included a tracking sheet for progress over time for your students.
Get Your Mouth Ready
Look at the Picture
Think - What Makes Sense
Look for Chunks You Know
You can find the posters to display in your classroom in both full size sheets, and bookmarks by clicking. here
Reading strategy sentence strips will help your students to FINALLY apply reading strategies. Not only will they apply these strategies, but they will explain why they chose that strategy. This will allow your students to take ownership of their reading. It will provide your new readers with the tools they need to become fluent readers.
These can be used in small group, whole group, RTI time, Intervention, tutoring, special education and during 1:1 practice.
Students will be able to choose the strategy they think helped them with an unfamiliar word. They may choose a different strategy than you thought. I have my students explain their thinking. This allow the strips to be with multiple strategies.
Laminate for durability.
Hole punch and put on a ring for easy access and storage.
