I find that my students need explicit and repeated practice with implementing reading strategies to boost their comprehension. I created this set of comprehension organizers to meet this need.
You will get 7 comprehension strategy graphic organizers in half-sheet format for convenient use alongside a book or passage. I often use them as bookmarks if we need to refer back to them over the course of days. The following reading strategies are included:
Each graphic organizer is 1/2 page and double sided. The front side explains the strategy and offers sentence frames to help students implement the strategies in discussion and in writing. The back side offers a graphic organizer for students to practice using the strategy when applied to a book or passage. I use these reading strategy graphic organizers during instructional time to explicitly teach, practice, and repeat the use of the strategies when applied to a text from our curriculum.
You also get 4 graphic organizers which can be used for general comprehension of nonfiction and fiction texts. I use these to hold students accountable for their independent reading. The organizers are simple and quick to fill out, and they give me an idea of how well the students understood their reading.
