The Phonics Power Points were created by E.L.L. Teacher, Nancy McCurdy, to follow the phonics pattern for each story in the 2nd Grade 2012 Reading Street series. Each Power Point allows for repetitive, visual and oral practice of the phonics pattern. The Power Points can be projected onto your Promethean board or laptop computer for daily practice with your large group, small group or at home. Each word is color coded to show the phonics pattern to create a visual memory for the student. There are a total of 10 Power Points for Unit 5. Phonics Patterns include: inflected endings, abbreviations, syllables 'tion', 'ture', suffixes '-ness', '-less', '-able', '-ible' and prefixes 'mis-', 'micro-', 'mid-;, and 'non'.
Day 1 Introduce the first Power Point which repeats the words within the same phonics pattern. Day 2 try the Mix Up Phonics power point to practice the different phonics pattern out of order. Practice the words at the beginning of each day and see the results! Excellent visual support for any struggling learner - ELL, SPED, and Intervention.
