If you’re using Reading Street, then these writing strips are for you! I use the 2011 Common Core Edition, but this contains no page numbers- so these will useful to you as long as you're reading the Coyote School News story :)

We use them as glue in prompts for our spiral notebooks. Just copy, "paper cutter” the left and right sides off, then into strips ready to hand out.

There are 2 spiral writes. The first one asks the students to draw conclusions about why the students like Miss Byers. The second prompt is a cause and effect question about what Monchi learned about hard work through his experiences.

Each spiral write features guiding questions and bullet points to help students generate high quality writing.

I find these are most useful on “Day 4” of the Reading Street schedule. They’re great to have students reread/review portions of the story, and expand on their reading.
