If you’re using Reading Street, then these writing strips are for you!
**I use the 2011 Common Core Edition of Reading Street.**
We use them as glue in prompts for our spiral notebooks. Just copy, "paper cutter” the left and right sides off, then into strips ready to hand out.
There are 2 spiral writes. The first one asks students to draw details from the text to describe what things young Jean-Francois did that would help him later in life to discover the link to ancient Egyptian writing. The second prompt asks students if they believe Jean-Francois could have been able to break the Navajo code used in World War II.
Each spiral write features guiding questions and bullet points to help students generate high quality writing.
I find these are most useful on “Day 4” of the Reading Street schedule. They’re great to have students reread/review portions of the story, and expand on their reading.
I hope you enjoy these and check back for more spiral writes for the other Reading Street weeks!
