Reading Street Common Core Supplement (2013) - First Grade
Add a little fun to your first grade reading block while practicing word and sentence fluency with this easy-to-use activity. The rules of this game are similar to the rules of Tic-Tac-Toe, but the children must read a short set of words or sentences before marking the game board with a colored counting chip. The words and sentences used in this packet are those found in the Pearson Reading Street Common Core reading series (Grade 1, Unit 3) and will therefore help the children become familiar with high frequency words, story words, and reading with fluency.
Included you will find 2 pages for each of the 6 stories in Reading Street Common Core Unit 3. The first page will help your students practice word fluency, while the second page will help with sentence fluency. This allows you to differentiate your groups.
Note: This is NOT a sequencing activity. The story sentences are in random order.
I like to print the game sheets on cardstock and laminate them to use over and over again in my classroom. You may simply want to run them off on copy paper, put them in sheet protectors and use dry erase markers. Another option is to print them on copy paper and allow the kids to practice in class and then take them home to play with their parents or siblings.
