Reading Street Common Core Supplement 2013 Grade 1 - Unit 4 - Sentence Fill-ins - Great Center Work - Pearson Supplement for First Grade

Add a little color to your spelling practice with this Colorful Fill-Ins Working with Spelling Words word packet. There are three pages that supplement each of the six stories found in Unit 4 of the Reading Street Common Core Grade 1 reading series.

The spelling pages may be used with the following Pearson stories:

Mama's Birthday Present
Cinderella
A Trip to Washington, D. C.
A Southern Ranch
Peter's Chair
Henry and Mudge and Mrs. Hopper's House

The first page asks the students to read the sentences provided and decide which spelling word is missing. Students write the correct word using colored pencils or crayons (following the color code at the top of the page). This page makes great independent/partner work that students can work on while you are working with your guided reading groups. It works well as a homework assignment, too.

The second page requires the students to choose 5 of their spelling words provided in the box at the top of the page and use each word correctly in a sentence. Students really enjoy choosing which words they are going to use.

A third page is provided for those students who are capable of writing interesting stories using all of the spelling words. (My one reading group just loves this! They come up with very creative stories and enjoy reading them to others.)

You can use one, two, or all three pages throughout the week. I use page 1 with all students (some students work independently and others work with me in small groups).
I use pages 2 and 3 for differentiated instruction during my guided reading time.

Great for early finishers, too!
