Reading Street Common Core 2013 Supplement FIRST GRADE (Unit R) Roll, Read, and Color - Great for intervention groups!
These Roll, Read, & Color word game printables are designed to reinforce the high-frequency words, story words, and words with targeted sounds (Ex.: r /r/, j /j/, qu /kw/) that are taught in Unit R of the first grade Reading Street Common Core reading series. This packet contains two word game pages for each of the 6 stories included in Unit R. Each printable contains 6 words that coordinate with that week’s story.
Play is easy. First, the student predicts a winner, guessing which word he/she will roll the most. Then, the student rolls a die, reads the word from that column, and colors a word in that column. Play continues until two columns are filled. The student records the results. Was his/her prediction correct?
This game can be played individually, but partners are lots of fun! (My kiddos like to play with partners... friendly competition, of course!) I love to use this activity as a literacy center. The students are so actively engaged in the game, that there are fewer interruptions during instruction of guided reading groups.
Great game for intervention groups!
Thanks for your interest!
