This resource contains 65 pages of fluency and close read activities for the stories in Units 1 through Unit 5 of the Reading Street First Grade reading program (2013 Common Core Edition). Students work with a partner to practice reading selections from the stories. The selection they read can be chosen in a variety of ways. They can spin a paperclip, roll a dice, pick a stick, draw a number, or shake a counter from a cup. This choice makes it different each time they play. The templates for the spinners and directions for playing are included. Students will improve their fluency from this extra, special practice. Also included is one close read activity page for each of the 30 stories. Students will dig deeper and re-examine the story carefully through a variety of steps. They will look for phonetic patterns, punctuation, specific types of words, sentences and answer questions that give them a deeper meaning of the text. The next time they read the selection, their fluency and understanding have
improved. This is a basic resource that will impact and improve reading in your classroom.
