This bundle includes word sorts for all of the phonics/spelling words in the fourth grade Reading Street (2008 edition) curriculum, for all six units.
The words can be used during guided reading for word work, during centers and workstations, or as homework.
The words are inside boxes that are easy for students to cut and sort into organized groups. The patterns for each spelling list can be found in the Reading Street teacher manuals, or you can create your own pattern to go with each list.
**Possible 15-20 minute center activities**
--BEFORE YOU TEACH THE WEEKLY SPELLING PATTERN--
- Cut, sort, and discuss (Students cut their words and sort to whichever patterns they are able to find. Then, they discuss their patterns with another student. This allows for differentiation and discussion of word patterns. Place them in a baggie for the next day.)
- Alphabetize (Students sort their words into alphabetical order, in order to practice this important skill. Place them in a baggie for the next day.)
--AFTER YOU TEACH THE WEEKLY SPELLING PATTERN--
- Memory/Concentration Game (Students put all words facedown, and play a memory/concentration game to see if they can match words that fit into the same category/pattern.)
- Sort and glue (Students sort their words according to the spelling pattern of the week and then glue their groups onto construction paper to turn in. This serves as an assessment to ensure students understand the weekly patterns. This can be seen in the preview file for this bundle.)
Have ideas? I'd love to hear how you use word sort cards!
