This file contains questions and an answer key for each of the 5 texts from Reading Street Grade 4, unit 5 (2011 edition): "Smokejumpers," "Lost City," "Cliff Hanger," "Antarctic Journal," and "Moonwalk."
Each story also has an accompanying writing extension, aimed at the Common Core Reading/Writing standards. The genres for this unit include: Spoken newscast, character journal, book jacket (with summary and critic's review), expository analysis (of evidence in text), and literature analysis (of character traits).

Each set of questions ask students to apply reading skills to the text that they have read. They are not straightforward comprehension questions. Instead, they really ask students to think about the texts they are reading, and apply the skills learned in class, as required by the Common Core Standards. There is a strong emphasis on referencing the story for evidence. They may be used as comprehension checks, or open book study guides.
Each story includes 5-8 questions, with a mix of multiple choice, short answer, extended response (summary), charts and illustrations. Since this unit is meant to be used later in the year, when students' skills have grown, there is a strong emphasis on short answers, and students explaining their answers.
