If you are looking for some resources that will help you get accustomed to each of your students, this may be the resource for you. The meat of this resource are the BUILD-A-WORD lessons. If you want to start off your year teaching phonics skills that first week of school in a fun and interactive manner, this file is for you.
If you are looking for some fun worksheets that students can do on their own, this is NOT the file for you. This file is primarily to support teacher guided lessons in phonics/spelling. Also, there are a couple of memory games for you to use as ice breakers/get to know you games at the reading table. Also, after the kiddos know how to play the Memory Games, they will be playing them independently in their reading stations. Again, these are interactive and are not meant to be played alone. Also included are sight and spelling word flash cards to be used both with and without the teacher.

*Sight Word Flash Cards in 2 Formats
*Decodable Flash Cards in 2 Formats
Both the Sight Words and Decodable Words are designed to be used in a station and/or at the teacher's reading table, or by a parent volunteer.
*3 Build-A-Word Mini Lessons with Explicit Directions & Answer Keys
The BUILD-A-WORD lessons are designed to be interactive and it is teacher-led. There is a grammar/writing printable that is part #2 of the lesson. [If you have used my BUILD-A-WORD lessons in the past, this is very similar except it is in vertical format with a few revisions.]
*Bookmark (This is just a quick coloring activity for the student..can be put in a station as an easy go to activity for the first week of school when we are trying to get them familiar with the general expectations of our classroom. Teach about tracking...to go along with the bookmark's purpose...)
*Genre & Sentence Posters (These can be printed and put on display. Personally I display the poster via my ActivBoard while we discuss the genre for that week.)
*2 Memory Games: Sight Words & Decodable Words (May be used at the Teacher Table as an ice breaker activity and also by students working in stations)
*Writing Prompt Printable (This is the writing prompt from the basal.)
The remaining READINESS STORIES will be in a similar format ~ Very predictable. Great for when we are trying to teach rules, routines, and procedures, but still need to teach effective but virtually prep-free lessons during those initial weeks of school:)
(Please note: This is primarily a black-line printable with a sprinkling color graphics. If you prefer tons of color, this is not the best resource for your needs, but many thanks for peeking:)

Teaching BUILD-A-WORD lessons at the onset of the school year takes tremendous effort and this packet can help you get your students where you need them to be with consistent teaching of the phonics lessons:)
