Reading! Story Connections - A Rare Snow Day {One Story - Tons of Activities}

This learning pack is designed to help your students dig a little deeper when reading a story or text passage. These activities will help your students to find evidence in the text to support his/her understanding. Each Monday, students are presented with the story of the week. Each story is written by me. Then as the week progresses, they use the same story to make connections to grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary, research and even some bonus activities such as social studies, science, and math. A sheet of blank task cards are included. These are NOT editable, but you can write any tasks that would apply readily to your group of students.

I have included the connections in 2 formats… worksheets and task cards. Use them all in one week or revisit the story at a later date. Choose the connections that work best for your class.

I have designed these for my own 4th graders, but the range of activities and the range of the Lexile band makes them easily adaptable to higher 2nd graders, on-level 3rd and 4th graders and struggling 5th graders. Use with the whole group, small groups, literature circles, needs-based, intervention, literacy centers, etc. This would be great to use as homework. Send home the story and the chosen assignments on Monday and have students return on Friday. It would also be great for a sub-plan.

This story and all of the connecting activities can be used for a time period of 1-2 weeks. Pick and choose from the variety of activities to decide what will work best for your students.
