Whether you're implementing a book club or other form of independent, choice reading, students need to have periodic opportunities to socialize and share their thinking. With these reading task cards for fiction and nonfiction, your students will be able to share meaningful information about their books with their classmates even when everyone is reading a different novel.

In this resource, you will receive 60 fiction discussion task cards and 60 nonfiction discussion task cards. You can use them:

- to guide small group discussions

- as journal prompts

- as a stand and share "book commercial" prompt

- as informal reading-check quizzes

- as exit tickets

- as bell ringers

- as transition activities

- as station or learning center cards

- or however you desire!

The reading task card questions relate to students' experiences and interests with the book, characters, plot, setting, theme, mood, tone, point of view, author's style, and more. Students will be asked to think about and analyze their novel from different creative angles as they don their critical thinking hats.

Since 60 task cards are included for each genre (fiction and nonfiction), you will be able to use these cards over and over for years to come. Consider printing on cardstock and laminating for resilience.

These reading discussion cards are appropriate for middle and high school students who are engaging in literature circles, independent reading, classroom book clubs, and more.
