These Reading Task Cards will help your students find evidence as they read informational and literary (nonfiction and fiction) text. These task cards are designed to be used with your own informational and literary text. (No reading passages are included)
Students need to know how to find evidence in the text they’re reading, whether its informational or literary text. These task cards are designed to be used with your own text so they are very flexible. Students use the texts you choose to search for the answers to the questions on the task cards. Since the questions are not written for specific text some of the answers may not be found in every text. But, I tried to include questions that should be able to be answered using most informational or literary text.
You can use these cards in your whole group lessons by displaying a card and letting students search through a text to find evidence for the answer. The cards would also work well in small groups, in partner work or in a literacy center.
I created the questions for the cards with students in grades 2-4 in mind. That’s a pretty wide range of readers, but it’s quite possible you have that wide range of readers in your classroom.
There are two sets of cards- Set A and Set B.
Set A cards are a little easier and hopefully will work for most 2nd graders. There are 3 questions and 1 drawing prompt on each card. Most of the cards in set A have a picture about the topic.
Set B cards are a little more challenging and hopefully will work for grades 3-4. There are 4 questions and 1 drawing prompt on each card.
